Our Casino Review Methodology
Every casino review on this site follows the same rigorous process. We do not rely on press releases, operator claims, or secondhand information. Each casino is tested by a member of our team using a real account, real money, and over a period of at least two weeks.
Since launching in 2019, we have tested over 200 online casino platforms. Of those, fewer than 30 have made it onto our recommended lists. The majority fail on at least one critical criterion — usually withdrawal speed, bonus transparency, or licensing.
Our goal is straightforward: give Irish players honest, experience-based information so they can make informed decisions about where to play. We are not here to sell you on a particular casino. We are here to tell you what we found when our compliance team verified it ourselves.
🔎 What Makes Our Reviews Different
We deposit our own money, play real games, request real withdrawals, and contact customer support with genuine questions. If a casino fails our testing, it does not appear on the site — regardless of what they offer to pay us.
Rating Criteria and Weightings
Each casino is scored across seven categories. These categories are weighted differently because not all aspects of a casino have equal impact on your experience. A casino with excellent games but a dodgy licence is far more concerning than one with great security but limited game variety.
| Category | Weight | What We Test |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing & Safety | 25% | Valid gambling licence (MGA, UKGC, or equivalent), SSL encryption, responsible gambling tools, complaint history, regulatory sanctions |
| Game Selection | 20% | Total game count, provider diversity (NetEnt, Evolution, Pragmatic Play, etc.), live dealer options, exclusive titles, mobile-compatible games |
| Bonuses & Promotions | 15% | Welcome bonus value, wagering requirements, ongoing promotions, loyalty programme, bonus transparency and fairness of terms |
| Payments | 15% | Deposit methods available in Ireland, withdrawal speed (tested), minimum/maximum limits, fees, currency support (EUR) |
| Mobile Experience | 10% | Native app availability, mobile browser performance, game selection on mobile, deposit flow, biometric login support |
| Customer Support | 10% | Live chat availability, response time (tested), email support quality, FAQ/help section, language support |
| Responsible Gambling | 5% | Deposit limits, session time alerts, self-exclusion options, links to problem gambling resources, staff training |
How We Calculate the Final Score
Each category receives a score from 1 to 10. The weighted average produces the overall rating. For example, a casino scoring 9/10 for licensing (25% weight) and 6/10 for support (10% weight) would calculate as: (9 × 0.25) + (6 × 0.10) = 2.25 + 0.60 = 2.85 out of a possible 3.5 for those two categories. The full calculation includes all seven categories.
We do not use half-points or decimal scores in our published ratings. Everything rounds to the nearest 0.5 to keep things clear and comparable. A casino needs an overall score of at least 7.5/10 to appear on our recommended lists.
The Testing Process — Step by Step
Here is exactly what happens when we review a casino. This process takes a minimum of two weeks per casino, and we document every interaction, screenshot every transaction, and record every support conversation.
Step 1: Registration & KYC
We sign up using a real Irish address and provide genuine identification documents. We time how long the registration process takes and note any friction points. We also verify that the KYC (Know Your Customer) process is compliant with anti-money laundering regulations. A casino that does not ask for identity verification before allowing large withdrawals raises immediate red flags.
Step 2: Deposit Testing
We make deposits using at least three different payment methods commonly used in Ireland: a Visa debit card, an e-wallet (Skrill or Neteller), and either Apple Pay or bank transfer. For each deposit, we record the processing time, any fees charged, and the minimum deposit amount. We deposit a total of €500–€1,000 across the testing period.
Step 3: Bonus Claiming
If the casino offers a welcome bonus, we claim it. We read the full terms and conditions — not just the headline offer — and note the wagering requirements, game contribution percentages, maximum bet limits while a bonus is active, and the expiry period. We then attempt to play through the bonus to test whether the wagering requirements are realistically achievable.
Step 4: Game Testing
We play a minimum of 30 different games across slots, table games, and live dealer. For slots, we record the RTP displayed in-game and compare it to the provider’s published figures. For table games, we verify that rules and payouts match standard expectations. For live dealer games, we assess stream quality, dealer professionalism, and available table limits. We test on both desktop and mobile devices.
Step 5: Withdrawal Testing
This is where many casinos reveal their true colours. We request at least two withdrawals using different methods and time how long each takes from request to funds appearing in our account. We note whether the casino imposes any “pending period” (a waiting time during which you can reverse your withdrawal — a practice we consider player-hostile). We verify there are no hidden fees.
Step 6: Support Testing
We contact customer support through every available channel: live chat, email, and phone (if available). We ask a mix of simple questions (“What are the bonus wagering requirements?”) and more challenging ones (“Can you explain your complaint escalation process?”). We assess response time, accuracy, and whether the agent actually helps or just reads from a script.
Our Editorial Independence Policy
This site earns revenue through affiliate partnerships with some of the casinos we review. When you click a link to a casino and sign up, we may earn a commission. This is how we fund the site and the extensive testing process described above.
However, affiliate revenue never influences our ratings, rankings, or reviews. Here is how we ensure editorial independence:
- Ratings are calculated before any commercial discussion. Our review team completes the full testing process and assigns scores before the business team has any involvement.
- We decline partnerships that require guaranteed placement. If a casino asks for a “guaranteed top 3 spot” or requests we remove negative feedback, we decline the partnership entirely.
- Negative reviews remain published. Casinos that fail our testing are not simply omitted — we publish our findings so players can avoid problematic operators.
- All affiliate links are clearly disclosed. Every page on this site carries a disclosure notice. We comply fully with the Irish Consumer Protection Act and EU transparency requirements.
📝 Our Promise to Readers
If we would not feel comfortable recommending a casino to a friend or family member, it does not appear on our site. Every recommendation is one we stand behind personally.
Meet the Review Team
Our Review Standards
Every reviewer on our team follows the same methodology documented on this page. Before a review is published, it is cross-checked by at least one other team member for accuracy, consistency, and completeness. We do not publish reviews based on a single session or a surface-level assessment.
How We Update Our Reviews
The online casino industry changes rapidly. New games are released, bonus terms are modified, payment methods are added or removed, and licences can be revoked. A review that was accurate six months ago may not reflect the current state of a casino.
Monthly Checks
We perform monthly checks on every casino in our recommended list. This includes verifying the licence status, checking for any regulatory sanctions, testing the withdrawal process, and confirming that bonus terms match what is advertised.
Quarterly Deep Reviews
Every quarter, our lead reviewer conducts a comprehensive re-test of each recommended casino. This follows the same six-step process used for the initial review: registration experience, deposits, bonus claiming, game testing, withdrawals, and support.
Reader Feedback Integration
If a reader reports a negative experience with a casino our legal team recommends, we investigate immediately. If the complaint is substantiated, we update the review, adjust the score, and in serious cases, remove the casino from our recommendations entirely.
📅 Last Full Review Cycle
All casino reviews on this site were last fully updated in April 2026. Our next quarterly deep review is scheduled for July 2026.
Our Review Team Credentials
Transparency about who writes our reviews is a core part of our editorial commitment. Here are the people behind the assessments on this site.
Ciaran O'Brien — Lead Casino Reviewer & Editor
Sean has been reviewing online casinos since 2016, focusing on the Irish and UK markets. He has personally tested over 200 casino platforms with real money deposits. His background includes five years as a financial services compliance analyst, giving him detailed understanding of licensing, regulation, and player protection frameworks. Sean holds GamCare Certification for responsible gambling awareness and attends industry conferences including ICE London and SBC Barcelona. He oversees all reviews on this site and personally re-tests any casino that receives a reader complaint.
Review Team Standards
In addition to Sean, our wider review team includes contributors with backgrounds in online gambling, fintech, and consumer advocacy. Every reviewer follows the same documented methodology before a review is published. Key qualifications across the team include:
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on casino testing experience
- Verified real-money accounts at all reviewed operators
- Familiarity with Irish gambling regulation (Gambling Regulation Act 2024, GRAI)
- Responsible gambling awareness training
- No personal financial interest in any reviewed operator beyond standard affiliate relationships disclosed on this page
Affiliate Disclosure
This site earns revenue through affiliate partnerships with some of the casinos we review. When you click a link and register at a casino, we may receive a commission. This commercial relationship is disclosed here and throughout the site. Critically, affiliate commissions do not influence our review scores. Our review process is completed before any commercial discussion with the operator. We have declined multiple partnership offers from casinos that failed our review process.
How We Select Casinos to Review
We do not review every casino that exists. Our selection process filters out operators that do not meet basic standards before we invest the time and money required for a full review.
Mandatory Criteria (Must Meet All)
- Accepts Irish players: The casino must explicitly welcome players from Ireland and offer services in English with EUR currency support.
- Holds a recognised licence: We only review casinos licensed by the MGA (Malta Gaming Authority), UKGC (UK Gambling Commission), Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner, or an equivalent tier-1 regulator. Curacao licences are considered on a case-by-case basis for established operators only.
- Operational for 6+ months: Brand-new casinos are not reviewed until they have been live for at least six months. This gives us time to see how the operator handles real player complaints, withdrawal processing at scale, and ongoing regulatory compliance.
- No unresolved regulatory actions: If a casino has pending sanctions, fines, or licence suspension proceedings, we will not review or recommend it until the matter is resolved.
Additional Factors We Consider
- Game library size and provider diversity (minimum 500+ games from 3+ providers)
- Payment method support relevant to Irish players (PayPal, Visa, Skrill, etc.)
- Customer support availability (live chat is strongly preferred)
- Mobile compatibility (responsive site or dedicated app)
- Community reputation (player forums, complaint databases, industry awards)
What Gets a Casino Rejected
The following are automatic disqualifications, regardless of how well the casino performs in other areas:
- No verifiable gambling licence
- History of withheld withdrawals or confiscated balances without valid reason
- Use of pirated or unaudited game software
- Deceptive bonus terms (hidden wagering requirements, undisclosed win caps)
- Failure to implement responsible gambling tools (deposit limits, self-exclusion)
Our Rating Scale Explained
We use a 5-point rating scale. Here is exactly what each score means, so you can interpret our reviews with confidence.
| Rating | Meaning | Typical Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| ★★★★★ 5/5 | Exceptional | Best-in-class across all categories. No significant weaknesses. Would recommend without hesitation to any Irish player. |
| ★★★★☆ 4/5 | Very Good | Strong performer with one or two minor weaknesses. Recommended for most players. May lack a specific feature (e.g., PayPal support) but excels in other areas. |
| ★★★☆☆ 3/5 | Average | Meets basic standards but nothing exceptional. May have slow withdrawals, limited game selection, or below-average customer support. Acceptable but better options exist. |
| ★★☆☆☆ 2/5 | Below Average | Significant concerns in one or more areas. May have poor withdrawal practices, unclear bonus terms, or limited regulatory oversight. Not recommended. |
| ★☆☆☆☆ 1/5 | Poor / Avoid | Fundamental issues that make this casino unsuitable for Irish players. Licensing concerns, deceptive practices, or player safety issues. We actively recommend avoiding these operators. |
What Would Get a Casino Removed Entirely
A casino is removed from the site (not just given a low score) if we discover: a revoked or expired gambling licence, confirmed instances of player fund mismanagement, rigged or manipulated game outcomes verified by independent testing, or a pattern of non-payment of verified player withdrawals. Removal is permanent unless the underlying issue is fully resolved and independently verified.
Why We Show Negative Reviews
Some casino review sites only show positive content — glowing reviews of every operator, no cons listed, no warnings given. We take a different approach, and here is why.
Trust Requires Honesty
If every casino on a review site gets 4.5 stars and a glowing recommendation, those ratings are meaningless. Our value to you as a reader comes from honest differentiation: telling you which casinos excel, which are mediocre, and which should be avoided. That requires us to publish negative findings when they exist, even about casinos that pay us affiliate commissions.
Every Casino Has Weaknesses
No casino is perfect. Even our highest-rated operators have drawbacks — slow customer support, high wagering requirements, limited payment options, or restricted game selections in certain categories. We list cons alongside pros in every review because an honest assessment of weaknesses helps you make better decisions.
Affiliate Pressure and How We Handle It
We have received requests from casino operators to remove or soften negative findings in our reviews. We have declined every such request. If an operator asks us to hide a weakness, we view that as a red flag about their transparency, not a reason to comply. Our editorial independence is non-negotiable because it is the foundation of reader trust, which is ultimately more valuable than any single affiliate partnership.
What Happens When a Good Casino Deteriorates
Casinos change over time. Ownership changes, bonus terms get worse, withdrawal speeds slow down, or licensing status changes. When a previously recommended casino deteriorates, we update the review, lower the score, and if necessary, remove the recommendation entirely. We have done this multiple times and will continue to do so. Our commitment is to current accuracy, not to past assessments.
